A YOUNG musician from Ackworth has been chosen to perform in a prestigious Belfast production.

Zoe Utley, 15, successfully auditioned for the chance to play the flute in Youth Music Theatre UK's production of The Chosen Room – a musical set in a futuristic social networking fantasy world – which will be performed at Belfast's Stranmillis College Theatre in August.

Zoe, who has a music scholarship at Ackworth School, said: "I am really excited about the project I have been chosen for.
"This opportunity will benefit my musical education. I will be working with professional composers and musical directors which I would not, otherwise, be able to do.
"I really enjoy participating in orchestras and bands and would like to have the chance to explore, learn and participate in musical theatre."

The student – who has just sat her GCSE music exam a year early and is studying grade eight flute – needs to raise £450 to pay the fee for the course, which runs from August 2-8.

Zoe said: "My travel costs have been covered by the ferry company, for which I am very grateful.
"However, I am trying to raise the funds needed for my course fee, which
covers all my accommodation, food and pastoral care.
"I would like to organise a sponsored swim, but this is in the very early stages of arrangement."

Anyone interesting in supporting Zoe can call her mum, Jacqueline Utley, on 01977 625479. For more information about Youth Musical
