QUARRY workers from Ackworth could be remembered with a new special memorial in the village.
Ackworth Heritage Group is looking into the idea of commemorating those who died after quarry accidents or injuries and appealing for their families to come forward.

Paul Ventom, vice chairman of the group, said: “Ackworth has a long tradition of quarrying and we are trying to get a memorial for those who died through their work,

“We want to see if anybody with relatives who died in the quarry would be interested in this project and want to come forward with the person’s details.

“So far we know 11 people who died but there may well be many more. It would be lovely to properly remember them in this way.”

Anybody interested in the project can contact Mr Ventom on 01977 613865.
