CARICATURIST Mick Hollin-worth – who swapped mining tools for sketching pens – claimed triple success in a prestigious competition.
Portraits of fellow entrants by the 45-year-old former pit worker won gold, silver and bronze prizes at the International Convention of Caricaturists in Holland on New Year's Day.
Dad-of-two Mr Hollinworth, of Millgate, Ackworth, said: "This recognition means so much to me and I'm on cloud nine at the moment.
"As far back as I can remember I've had a passion for drawing and a workpad in my hand – it was excellent to be pitted against the finest caricature artists from all over the world."
Mr Hollinworth grafted at South Kirby colliery for eight years before he injured his back in a fall, setting up as a freelance caricature artist in 1990.
He added: "It was hard work at first.
"But after I slipped and hurt my back I was put on light duty, I'd draw my colleagues on the back of maps and dream of doing this.
"Now I work all over the country, including at Alton Towers, and hope to take part in another massive convention in America this year."
Mick's work is on show and also for sale online at www.mickscaricatures.co.uk.
