STUDENTS have been putting tasty food on their families' tables thanks to cookery lessons at an after-school club.
Members of Castleford High School’s after-school club have been cooking up a storm in lessons held by Zoe Liddle, of Floury Fingers, which tours schools in the area.
The club’s organisers have invited in outside help to try and boost the numbers of pupils who use the service. Assistant headteacher Elaine Wells, who runs the club, said: “We have a regular amount of pupils who use the club but we wanted to open it up to other teachers like Zoe.
“The children have really been enjoying it and have so far made enchiladas, fish cakes and pizzas. They make them from scratch and then finish cooking them at home.”
The club is a joint venture between the school and Castleford Young People’s Service and children can do a range of activities.
Mrs Wells said: “We regularly have arts and crafts and play games – whatever the children want to do really. We will also have dance classes soon and cheerleading from September.
“We do have mostly girls at the moment, but we are trying to target some activities for boys, such as with the dancing we will have some street dancing. We are also looking at trying some boys-only cookery lessons.”
