CROWDS flocked to walk across Castleford's striking new £4.8m footbridge at its spectacular unveiling.
Townsfolk soaked up the sun on the S-shaped structure over the River Aire after Wakefield Council leader Peter Box officially opened it on Friday.
Celebrations – including marching Roman centurions, jazz and dancing – culminated with the bridge's lights brightening up the waterside for the first time.

Coun Box said: "When I cut the ribbon I said that it's not just about connecting two parts of the town, it's about being a focus for the regeneration of the whole area.
"I'm sure we can, over the next ten or 15 years, make a huge change to Castleford."

Vandalism and building delays have plagued the long-awaited bridge's opening, originally planned for December.
