A HEARTBROKEN pensioner is urging residents to keep their pets under control after her dog was mauled to death by a pair of greyhounds.
Helen Barrass, 80, was horrified to see the savage animals rip into her into her Lakeland cross, Benji, as she took him for a walk in Airedale's Queen's Park at around 2.30pm last Thursday.
Mrs Barrass, who is from Scotland but was visiting her daug
hter in Airedale, said: "It was sickening. The owners didn't do anything – they didn't even help to separate the dogs.
"The dogs were out to kill.

"Benji was left bleeding from top to bottom. I asked them for their name and address, but they wouldn't give me their details. I just couldn't believe it."
The pet, who she'd had for five years, was left with a 10cm gash to his intestine and kept at the vets for two days.
He died in the early hours of Monday morning.

Mrs Barrass said: "It was heartbreaking. I hope that the person who owns those greyhounds knows what they've done. Benji came out of the vets wrapped up in bandages like a mummy and was such a mess.
"We reported it to the police, but they've said there's nothing they can do.
"I want to warn other dog owners about the kind of people that are out there and to urge people to keep their dogs on leads."
