RIVAL rugby fans stepped out on a mammoth 17-mile hike to help save the sight of brave Castleford teenager Sky-Marie Cartwright.
Supporters of Castleford Tigers joined Wakefield Wildcats fans on Saturday as they walked from the Belle Vue stadium to Huddersfield Giants’ Galpharm Stadium, where the Wildcats won the match by two points.
Die-hard fans from both teams organised the walk to help pay for 16-year-old Sky-Marie’s pioneering therapy to shrink a rare brain tumour and stop her going blind.
Sky-Marie flies to Switzerland to start her treatment on April 29.
Wildcats fan PC Mick Amos, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “It was fantastic to see that rival fans can work in unison off the pitch to help others.
“It was a long trek but we made plenty of pub stops and raised £200 from collections there alone.
“The final amount is still not in as the sponsorship also covers our second walk to The Jungle, I think that will be a big one.”
Walkers will travel from Wildcats’ Belle Vue ground to The Jungle in their second walk before Castleford Tigers clash with Wildcats on Saturday June 7.

Forms are also available from the Express editorial office at 12 Bank Street, Castleford.
