FANS cheered and threw cash to rival rugby supporters as they paraded around Castleford Tigers' stadium to raise money for ill teenager Sky-Marie Cartwright.
Wakefield Wildcats’ supporters and Tigers’ fanatics waved to the crowds and collected change as the two teams put their differences on the pitch aside at half time in Saturday’s derby.
The united fans completed the parade, and a sponsored walk, to help pay for 16-year-old Sky-Marie’s pioneering proton radiotherapy to shrink a brain tumour and stop her going blind.
Organiser PC Mick Amos said: “Everybody was in very high spirits and the walk was great – about 75 took part including four Wildcats’ players.
“From bucket collections alone we raised £1,000 and we are now getting the sponsorship money in.
“At half time we walked round The Jungle, everyone was clapping and throwing money on to our flag.”
Walkers set off from Wildcats’ Belle Vue home and arrived at The Jungle just before the two teams clashed, Wildcats winning 32-6, on Saturday.
Brave Sky-Marie, of Ambler Street, Castleford, jetted over for the weekend from her intensive therapy in Switzerland to take part in the hike.
Her mum Tracy said: “Sky-Marie has been very tired lately and is suffering from headaches but apart from that her treatment is going to plan.
“We only have two weeks until we’re home for good although we are coming back for Sky-Marie’s 17th birthday this weekend.”
PC Amos added: “Some of the people who took part raised money for Brennan Rooney last year with us, so it was fantastic to boost another cause.
“We will be organising more walks next year, maybe for another local child.
“I’d like to thank everyone who took part and helped out for their support.”
