THE winners of a competition to star in the opening of Castleford's new £4.8m footbridge will be recognised at a special party.
Nine youngsters who helped raise cash for the river’s fish pass – which opened in January – stood with Wakefield Council leader Peter Box as he unveiled the bridge.

Another prizewinner, Eric Crossland, will also join the party next week.

Alison Drake, chairman of Castleford Heritage Trust, said: “The party will celebrate and thank those who raised funds for the new fish pass to win this competition.

“The contest was held in nine schools and we also had one adult winner, Eric Crossland.”
