HISTORY-hungry townsfolk came, saw, and shopped at Castleford's first Roman spring festival on Saturday.
Legionnaires marched in to invade the town's Carlton Street, where costumed craft workers demonstrated their skills and families picked up bargains as the Romans did from the special market.

The spring spectacular was the finale of Castleford's Time Travellers history project, organised by Wakefield Council and Yorkshire Renaissance.
Project manager Cei Paynton said: "It was a brilliant event – there was a real buzz in the air.

"Children marched with the legionnaires and people dressed in togas or full battle gear before trying Roman food.
"This project gets people involved in the community side of museum life and lets them explore history.
"We hope to make the festival an annual event because it was such a success."
