FOUR sculptors have been shortlisted to create a new work of art for Castleford town centre.
The artists are creating detailed designs for the sculpture in Henry Moore Square.

A public exhibition will give residents and community leaders the chance to have their say on the options before one is chosen.

Alison Drake, chairman of Castlef
ord Heritage Trust, told two of the artists about Castleford’s past and regeneration at a meeting with project leaders last Friday.

She said: “We want this sculpture to be something really striking that speaks of this town’s heritage and history.

“What the people of Castleford like most of all is people who listen to what we need, we are looking for something rather special.”

Arts Council England has paid for the £60,000 project after investing in regeneration programme The Castleford Project.

Castleford Town Centre Partnership and Wakefield Council are also involved in the sculpture scheme, with the piece expected to be in place by the end of this year

Alison added: “The sculpture should be a centrepiece for Henry Moore Square to honour the fact that Henry Moore was the country’s greatest 20th century sculptor.

“It will celebrate the place we have named after Castleford’s most famous son.”
