In praise of Goodworth’s

I WOULD like to comment on the closure of Goodworth Brothers butchers shop in Chequerfield, Pontefract.

I know first hand how incredibly difficult the decision has been for John and his family to close the shop after 59 years and the impact it has had on him.

His warm, friendly and infectious personality has drawn customers from far and wide to what is a unique family business, the likes of which are in decline and will be a great loss to the local community of Chequerfield and The Circle in which its situated.

Rather than sad, he should be extremely proud of his success over the years.

It goes without saying that I know his loyal followers will continue visiting him on Front Street in Pontefract for his quality produce and equally important good old chit-chat which we all love him for.
