Not suitable for Castleford

I write in response to the press report issued by Aeternum and printed in July 5th’s Express.

Reading their plans it is hard to come to any other conclusion than that the project is unsuitable for Castleford. The volume of HGV traffic alone cannot be sustained with the infrastructure currently in place.

True it will bring jobs but to the detriment of the regeneration of Castleford, stifling the creation of further job opportunities. The town has only recently broken free of the years of stinted growth due to the chemical licence held on the C6 site and it shouldn’t have to suffer such consequences again.

One such possible consequence is the halting of Castleford Tigers’ ambitions of a new stadium because no major retailer will place a supermarket next to a site that processes the waste of the conurbations of Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield.

The recycling of waste may be necessary but the process needs to be away from urban populations and sending the waste of effectively West Yorkshire to Castleford is unacceptable. Therefore, it is up to the council to protect Castleford from such a project in order to make the regeneration of the town possible.

If the council endorses this scheme then the only conclusion to draw is that rate revenue is more important than the wellbeing of the people it represents.
