YOUNG wheelchair users can take part in free training courses in Featherstone to help them get about more easily.
National charity the Association of Wheelchair Children (AWC) will give expert advice on how to manoeuvre wheelchairs down stairs and over kerbs as well as playing games such as wheelchair basketball at the courses at Featherstone Technology College.

Families can also get involved in the courses with extra chairs provided by AWC, which gives training and advice to children who use wheelchairs and their relatives.

The charity’s patron, Ade Adeptian, who performed a wheelchair dance sequence for BBC television and played wheelchair basketball for England, was one of the first youngsters to take part in one of the courses.

The training takes place from 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday June 13 and 9.30am to 3pm on Sunday June 14 at the school on Pontefract Road, Featherstone.

To secure a place, or for more details, call Roy Wild on 01482 887163.
