CHARACTERS from children's books were brought to life at a Featherstone picnic to mark two national campaigns.
Volunteers, including Airedale High School drama students, dressed up and told stories to youngsters at Featherstone ImpRovers study centre at Featherstone Rovers earlier this month.

Children also created their own book and bookmarks to celebrate the National Year of Reading and National Inclusion Week – which celebrates diversity in education.

Tina Dransfield, manager of the Featherstone ImpRovers centre, said: “It was a really good day and the children went out of the door with a massive smile on their faces.

“Featherstone and Pontefract libraries gave each of the 160 children a book which was wonderful.

“We’d like to thank everyone who attended and helped out or contributed to the day.”
