SENSES will be stimulated at a new magical garden in Featherstone thanks to a £1,000 grant which will bring it to fruition.
Musical instruments, sweet-smelling flowers, wind chimes and textured objects will make up the sensory garden at Oakhill Children’s Centre – which won its cash hand out from the O2 It’s Your Community fund last week.
Emma Rowell, nursery manager at the Hardwick Road centre, said: “We are delighted and very excited.
“Our sensory garden will have wonderful wind chimes and patches of fragrant flowers.
“It will be a place for families to come and enjoy a sensory experience together.”
Staff at the centre – which provides parenting and childcare workshops and includes a nursery – celebrated receiving the grant with a garden party on Friday.
Emma added: “There was entertainment for families and staff to mark the occasion.
“Work on the garden is expected to begin in about two to three weeks and people will be able to come by appointment.”
The centre is organising a “Big Toddle” charity walk to Purston Park on July 15.
Families are welcome to take part in the event, which will raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.
