ROAD rage has broken out on a potholed Featherstone street which residents say has become dangerously rundown following a council blunder.
Householders on Andrew Street have been driven to despair after Wakefield Council workers resurfaced only one part of the road – going round a parked car – and left the part that was riddled with holes and bumps untouched.
The mishap happened after a full resurfacing of the road with tarmac lasted less than a month.
Driver Paul Mcardle said: "A couple of months ago workers came to fill in some potholes and throw down some tarmac but that didn't last two minutes, it was only patted down with a shovel.
"This time they've worked on the part of the road that was pretty good and left the other half covered in holes – going round a car for good measure – and nothing has happened since.
"Andrew Street is right next to the town's fire station, but it's dangerous for motorists and pedestrians.
A council spokesman said the treatment used was one of of many different surfacings available for different needs and a full resurfacing was planned for this year.
Nearby householder John Jackson added: "A lot of elderly people live round here and they struggle to cross the road because of all the holes. It's dangerous.
"The council has just ignored what we complained about in the first place. It's been a total waste of time and money.
"Even the second lot of tarmac has started to come away now."
The council spokesman said: "We are aware that the condition of Andrew Street is not good and full resurfacing work will take place later this year.
"This should hopefully address the residents' concerns.
"Regular inspections will continue to ensure that safety is maintained until the resurfacing is carried out."
