PLACARD-waving parents stood defiantly in the way of drivers during a five-day protest over parking outside a Featherstone school.
Worried families have filled North Close, near All Saints’ Junior, Infant and Nursery School, each morning this week in a bid to stop motorists from dropping off children there.

Despairing protesters say there have been several “near miss” accidents and fear a youngster will soon be hurt.

Mum Beverley Wakefield, of Ackton, said: “Just last week a little girl was knocked into by a reversing car.

“North Close is a narrow dangerous road and there have been a few near misses.

“We’ve had enough. Nearby residents and school staff are supportive but we can’t stop the same parents who insist on parking there.”

A concerned grandmother also said: “Someone is going to be seriously hurt unless we change things.

“I’m worried for pupils’ safety and urge the parents concerned to stop parking there.”

Parents also want to highlight walking to school as a alternative option to driving as next week is national Walk to School Week.

All Saints’ headteacher Pamela Croft said: “We’ve tried various ventures, including a walking bus, to discourage parents from coming down our cul-de-sac and causing congestion.

“Over the last few weeks we have had reports of people reversing on to North Close and reports of near misses. In our newsletter we ask parents to try and find alternative places to park but we can’t stop them.

“The safety of our pupils is very important and we are doing all we can to encourage parking elsewhere.”
