BOOZE can no longer be bought from a Featherstone store which allegedly sold cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis over the counter.

The owners of Featherstone Convenience Store, on Green Lane, surrended their alcohol licence at a Wakefield Council licensing meeting on Wednesday.

Police arrested a man after raiding the shop – which will continue trading as a grocer's – and discovering the substances in a drugs bust on Friday March 14.

PC Dave Malik, licensing officer for West Yorkshire Police, told the meeting: "This is one of the most outrageous and disgusting examples of running a licensed premises we have seen in not just Wakefield, but West Yorkshire.

A report to the meeting said that about 30 tablets thought to be ecstasy were found on a shelf in the shop's store room and a knuckle duster and home-made cosh were found behind the counter.

The man – who was arrested after the drugs bust in connection with possession of class A and class C drugs – is now on police bail.
