SURVEYS on the regeneration of Featherstone will drop
through householders' doors after a bid for a town action plan was approved.
Featherstone Town Council agreed to launch Featherstone Futures – a year-long consultation to produce a ten-year community plan of improvements and redevelopments in the town – at its meeting on Wednesday April 8.

Postal surveys will ask what resi
dents think the town needs and the first meeting about the project will take place later this month.
Featherstone councillor Kay Binnersley said: "This plan will go into some very fine detail and I think it is exciting for Featherstone's regeneration now that it's begun, despite the recession.
"I'm really excited about the town plan as it will back up the Featherstone Masterplan and Wakefield Council can also be pleased that we are doing this.
"There will be a good few months of consultation, but this is the right way forward."

The town plan project will link into the Featherstone Masterplan and Wakefield Council's long term strategies.
Groups and schools will be consulted as well as residents in
the first stages of the scheme, with further work such as focus groups
eventually resulting in an action plan.

The town council has also launched new free advice sessions for residents at Featherstone Town Hall.
Outreach meetings with the Citizens' Advice Bureau now take place everyTuesday from 10am to 1pm, with Age Concern holding sessions between the same times on Wednesdays.

Town council leader Dave Herrington said: "We are working with the community to help regenerate the town.
"Featherstone Futures is about working with everyone in the community to produce a town plan and vision for the next ten to 20 years.
"Featherstone has a bright future, and everyone has the opportunity to shape it."
Residents are welcome to attend the first meeting on Featherstone Futures at Featherstone's old town hall on Monday April 27 at 7pm.
