FRUSTRATED resident Alan Johnson has slammed council bosses for neglecting Ferrybridge flowerbeds.
The 66-year-old says the numerous flowerbeds along Tenters Close and Fishergate have not been touched since before Christmas and weeds are reaching a metre high.

He said: “They have definitely been neglected. There are five flowerbeds and they are all the same. It’s terrible.

“No-one has seen to them for at least six months. Flowers should have been planted there or the beds should at least have been dug over and left as bare soil. That would have been better.

“My wife does a bit of gardening and she was talking about planting something there herself but I said it’s the council’s job.”

Mr Johnson, of Tenters Close, added: “They should be nicely planted so people can look out of their windows, or drive past, and see nice flowers.

“This is what we pay our council tax for. To keep things looking nice and tidy.

“It’s a disgrace.”

Coun Clive Hudson, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “The removal of weed growth from the raised flowerbeds on Fishergate, Ferrybridge, by the council’s environment services is scheduled to take place very soon.

“Following the recent commitment by the council to Wakefield in Bloom, we are pleased to be able to reinstate planting in these beds for the community to enjoy.”
