SPEEDING drivers got an earful from youngsters in Knottingley who helped out police officers for the day.
Pupils from The Vale Junior and Infant School, which is just off the busy main road of Hill Top, joined forces with local PCSOs Amy Smith and Vanessa Young, and PC Paul Turner, to scold drivers who broke the speed limit.

With the help of a speed detection sign, drivers who stuck to under 30mph were given a thumbs up by the group, but those who sped past at more than 30mph received a thumbs down and were booed.

PCSO Smith said: “Vale School is situated straight off Hill Top and has a problem with speeding cars. I have stood with the lollipop lady before just to have a presence on the road and try to slow drivers down, but this time we decided to get the children to jump on board.

“It was a really enjoyable day – the children loved it. There was a good response from drivers too.

“It was just a friendly way of getting the message across to drivers that they are passing a school and must watch their speed.”
