Honouring war dead

AS chairman of Featherstone War Memorial and Garden Group, I should like to answe the letter from Amanda Beresford "Cut out MP criticism" (Express, June 19).
In quoting Mr Yates this lady has made disparaging remarks about our committee. And for the record we are not staging a party and flyover. We are honouring those unrecognised soldiers, sailors and airmen who sacrificed their lives in both world wars
and conflicts since, in order that she may live in peace today.

It is unfortunate she does realise and respect the work our group has been doing for the past five years on behalf of the public of Featherstone and she should stop playing party politics. The brickwork superstructure will be complete within the next week and a rescheduled official opening is to take place at the beginning of October and will be announced in due course when all the external works and gardens will be complete.

The councillors in the project are continuously working hard and I would challenge Amanda to go and sit with Coun Roy Bickerton from 9am to 5.30pm six days a week at his office, to take stock of the amount of work he gets through on behalf of the public.
She would then change the concept of her statements. I challenge her to ask Coun Bickerton to allow her the privilege and then she can see what is done for herself.

BRIAN HARPER
Chairman
Featherstone War Memorial and Garden Group
