THE report "MP calls for cash" appears to signal an end to Mr Trickett's self-imposed exile from the town for the last four years.

He states regeneration has been his "primary focus". If so why has he failed to attend the many residents', community group, urban renaissance and regeneration meetings I and my colleagues have attended?

He has certainly taken little interest
in the plight of Girnhill Lane estate residents. He says he has visited with other MPs and government officials. When was this? Why were residents not invited?
He has had little contact with the elected representatives. Had he done so he would know we are working with WMDC's deputy leader to form a steering group to regenerate the town centre with Coalfields Regeneration, English Partnerships and Yorkshire Forward.

He knows this consultation with councillors, WMDC and partner agencies has been on going for some time. He would also have assisted in our campaign to secure the town hall for free to act as a major centre for regeneration. Sadly he has not.
We are happy to work with anyone to assist in Featherstone's promotion and regeneration. However given recent local and by-election results cynics will suggest that safe Labour seats are no longer so and that Jon Trickett's sudden interest in the town is more due to political survival than genuine interest.

We look forward to hearing how he intends to work with us and that the government intends to invest millions in the town.

Coun KAY BINNERSLEY
Featherstone
