I WRITE to say thank you to the Express for the promotion it organised for the annual Pontefract Statutes Fun Fair.
The Pontefract Statutes Fair is one of the oldest events in Yorkshire dating back more than 400 years. In recent years the event has been held on the Friarwood car park, however with stiff competition from Xscape and outdoor retail developments in the area the fair has been having a hard time recently and October was the last throw of the dice for the event.

However, thanks to the Express and the vouchers in the newspaper the fair was given a lifeline and we received thousands of these vouchers and business was up to its usual standard. By reducing the price of rides with the vouchers and ensuring our prices were kept to a low level all rides became £1 and the families flooded back to the ground to take advantage of the offers.

Thankfully the fair will be back again in October and I can honestly say that this is due to the Express and the vouchers and we would like to thank you for ensuring part of the heritage of Pontefract remains for the foreseeable future.
