I AM a local businesswoman in Pontefract. I have been trading for a few years now and this is the worst year I have ever had.
To add to the no smoking policy, which is shutting down most of the public houses, is the fact that no one has any money. They just don't want to go out and spend their money when they can't relax.
In my opinion the council doesn't want five towns anymore, just four. Pontefract used to be a lovely place now it's just full of mobile phone shops, banks and loads of charity shops.

Why don't they do something to improve it? It's not just me who suffers, it's all the business people in Pontefract.
If I didn't work there I wouldn't go myself so why should anyone else? Why do they do Castleford up all the time and in the middle of the credit crunch they go and build a bridge at £4.8 million.

Why did they do that? So we would have somewhere to throw ourselves off and wouldn't make a mess because we'd hit the water?
This country is dying and we just sit back and take it. I am disgusted in my own home town and the goverments that rule us.

ELIZABETH CUTTS
Monkhill Mount, Pontefract
