I AM writing in response to the report on the parking scheme on the streets near to PGI (Express, February 28).
I actually live half-way down Mayors Walk Avenue and so I am immediately affected by it. The scheme is urgently needed on our street and to be deferred by the councillors again is very disappointing.
The issue we have as I see it is threefold:
Firstly, people park indiscriminately without, it seems, much regard for the residents of the street. They frequently park next to and opposite our driveways so that getting in and out of the driveways is incredibly difficult, sometimes impossible.
Secondly, because of the parking, the dustbin lorries have been unable to get down the streets, so we haven't been able to get our bins emptied.
And so, thirdly, what happens if the emergency services are required? They would struggle to get down as well which could have the potential to put lives in danger.
Indeed, on one occasional I remember a car parked so that no vehicle at all could get down the street.
Therefore, it's essential that some sort of scheme is required to only allow residents' parking, to eradicate the problems noted above.
