A TIRELESS community stalwart in Featherstone has won a new annual honour set up to recognise the town's unsung heroes.
Devoted volunteer Ken Still, chairman of the Featherstone and District Community Events Association, was presented with the group’s first A True Featherstonian award last week.

The 71-year-old, of Mount Pleasant Street, said: “It was a big surprise to win because I didn’t know anything about it.

“One minute I was telling people the judges would choose the right person and then they were calling my name.

“I’ve worked with the association since it formed four years ago and I like to volunteer at anything that comes up, I really love it.”

The A True Featherstonian award thanks groups or people who contribute to their community beyond the call of duty.

Association chairman Gareth Yates paid tribute to Ken, saying: “Ken is our chairman but he helps out with absolutely everything.

“Like many of us in the association, and luckily for Featherstone, he has the community bug under his skin.

“It doesn’t take a lot to offer a little help but Ken is one of those unique individuals who will work at it night and day – but never gets recognised.”
