GEORGE Formby fans flocked to a Castleford pub to taste a tipple in his name.
The Shoulder of Mutton pub, on Methley Road, played exclusive host to a new beer called Turned Out Nice Again – one of George’s popular catchphrases.

Formby lookalike Paul Casper and Featherstone broadcaster Ian Clayton were among the guests who sampled the ale made in honor of the famous ukelele player, who met his wife Beryl in Castleford in 1923.

Landlord ‘Tetley’ Dave Parker said the beer was a hit, with all 72 pints selling out within eight hours.

The event came about after he visited a new brewery, Great Heck Brewery, near Snaith, run by husband and wife team Denzill and Lisa Vallance.

He said: “I found out that they were George Formby enthusiasts and I suggested they called one of their new beers Turned Out Nice Again, and they did.

“They are going to produce a George Formby-themed beer every month now and we will sell them exclusively.”

The Shoulder of Mutton pub is one of the 15 registered branches of the George Formby Society across the world.
