A PONTEFRACT school has been rewarded for its environmentally-friendly activities.
Larks Hill Junior and Infant School has received the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag award for the work pupils and staff do to help the environment.
The award is only handed out to schools which impress external assessors from ENCAMS, the organisation which runs the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
Headteacher Alison Smith said: “We are very pleased to receive the award, it’s a fantastic achievement.
“We have been doing lots of eco-type activities, such as recycling and composting, and we did a project to regenerate our wildlife area at the school.”
Emma Brewis, ten, a year six pupil and member of the school’s Eco-team, said: “I am really proud that we achieved our goal of the Eco-Schools award as I feel that we have worked very hard towards this.
“We put lots of work in to our wildlife garden especially by planting fruit and vegetables. This year we grew a bright yellow marrow and lots of carrots.
“My favourite bit of the journey was planting the vegetables and most of all being a part of the Eco-team.”
