CHILDREN at a Knottingley primary school dressed as tasty treats for a fruity day in aid of charity.
Staff and pupils at England Lane Junior and Infant School ditched their uniforms in favour of dressing as their favourite fruits in aid of World Cancer Research Fund.

The school managed to raise £150 for the cause through its Fruity Friday, when they also enjoyed a Caribbean-themed dinner, fruity hat making and fruit food preparation.

Brother and sister Rhys, eight, and Ellie Upton, five, won first prize for the best dressed junior and infant child with their homemade strawberry costumes.

Assistant headteacher Peter Roe, who donned a bananaman outfit, said: “A lot of the children are aware of cancer and its effects so we wanted to do something to raise money for the cause and came up with Fruity Friday.

“The effort put in by staff and pupils alike was excellent, we were really pleased. The children had a fantastic day.”
