TALENTED girls at The King's School in Pontefract practically swept the board at a district athletics championship.
The school’s years eight, nine and ten girls’ teams scooped first prize against competitors from secondary schools across the distict at the tournament at Thornes Park in Wakefield.

The school’s year seven girls’ team won third place and the boys’ teams of years eight and ten won second place.

Lucy Holmes, 15, and Rita Yates, 14, both smashed championship records for their events – Lucy in the 300m and Rita in the high jump.

Anni McKinney, PE team leader at the school, said: “They were all really pleased. We weren’t too surprised because we have some really talented girls so it was nice that they performed on the day and received the results they did.”

The school also won the overall girls’ winners trophy.
