ACROBATS and a dice with death thrilled thousands of visitors at this year's Ackworth Gala.
About 3,000 people flocked to Saturday’s event to gasp at a daring wheel of death – where blindfolded thrill-seekers balance on spinning pendulums – acrobats The Vander Bros and a falconry display.
A colourful parade from the Lafarge depot on Wakefield Road led revellers to the community gala on Carr Bridge playing fields.
Coun Allan Garbutt, leader of Ackworth Parish Council, said: “About 3,000 people turned out and we had wonderful weather compared to last year’s rain. Every year we have a theme and the wheel of death brought something different to the gala.
“Our stalls and community events were also enjoyed by all and we will start planning next year’s event in a few weeks.”
