RACER Ruben Sen battled through the pain of the 26-mile London Marathon – his first-ever running challenge – in memory of his father.
The 27-year-old completed the gruelling track to boost the coffers of the Parkinson’s Disease Society as dad Namit had the condition before he died aged 62 in September.
Ruben, of Regent Street, Castleford, hopes the £1,000 sponsorship he raised will help pay for research into the disease.
He said: “Before my dad died I spoke to him about the marathon and he said it was a good idea.
“When I was in pain running, I thought of the pain he must have been in at times and knew mine would be over soon.
“Parkinson’s is a disease that not much is known about, but it seems to affect a lot of people and I hope research could help us discover a cure.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere in the marathon, and I’d like to thank my family and friends for cheering me on.”
Ruben completed the capital city course on Sunday April 13 in five hours and 30 minutes.
