TWO brothers put on their running shoes in memory of their father for a 10k race for Cancer Research UK.
Richard, 38, and Ian Gregory, 45, joined nearly 2,000 runners for Cancer Research UK’s annual run at Harewood House in Leeds.
The pair wanted to raise money for the charity after their dad Peter died earlier this year aged 70 from bone marrow cancer.
Richard, of Castle Syke View, Pontefract, said: “I have run a lot of races for charity before but me and Ian both wanted to run this one because of what happened to our dad.”
Peter Gregory was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with what doctors originally though was lung cancer, but turned out to be bone marrow cancer.
He underwent courses of chemotherapy but died in July.
The brothers managed to raise £1,200 in total in sponsorship for the charity.
Ian, of Village Farm Close, Beal, said: “He was on the cancer wards at hospitals in Pontefract and Leeds and the staff there were fantastic. We just wanted to give a little bit back.
“I really enjoyed the event and our mum was there to cheer us on as well as our families.
“We’d like to thank family and friends for their donations, as well as my work colleagues at David S Smith in Featherstone for their generosity.”
