JIVING dancers, vintage vehicles and rifle firing will entertain throngs of 1940s enthusiasts in Castleford at the weekend.
Townsfolk are being asked to dig out their wartime outfits and head down to the town's second 40s festival on Saturday July 5.

The spectacular event – now part of Castleford's annual heritage festival – will also include entertainment from The George Formby Society, swing singers and dance teachers.

Alison Drake, chairman of Castleford Heritage Trust, which is one of the event's organisers, said: "The annual heritage festival was a real hit last year with the success of the 1940s day.

"We hope everyone turns out to celebrate with us."

A stage, decorated by bunting made at Castleford's 2 Sagar Street gallery, will be set up on Carlton Street for the festival from 10.30am-3.30pm.

Adventurous revellers can tackle drill sessions, rifle firing and grenade throwing while those who want to look the part can have a 1940s makeover.

The event has also been organised by Wakefield Council, Carlton Lanes shopping centre and the Castleford Town Centre Partnership.
