SOUL singer Hollie Sheard hopes to see her name in lights after winning the chance to work with showbiz experts in a songwriting competition.
Two tunes written by the Pontefract-born vocalist – who formed band Hollie Sheard and Friends last year – reached the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting Contest.

The former King’s High School pupil, who lives in Doncaster, said: “We’re excited, it’s great to get some recognition. Many semi-finalists have achieved success so hopefully it might open some doors for us. We won some small prizes with the possibility of being heard by top music industry professionals.”

Music-mad Hollie, 23, had keyboard lessons at Pontefract’s Northern Music Academy and performed her first gig at 2007’s Pontefract Liquorice Festival. To listen to Hollie Sheard and Friends visit www.holliesheard.co.uk.
