Musicians sing up for cancer research

A PONTEFRACT singer-songwriter is putting on an acoustic music night next month to raise money for a cancer research charity.

Rachael Parkin is staging the event at the Robin Hood pub, Town End, on Saturday August 18, when she will be playing alongside singers, musicians and a performance poet, under her stage name of Rachael Rae.

Rachael said: “My friend Melissa Lane is raising money for Yorkshire Cancer Research by running in 10k races and half marathons, and asked me to do something. So far I’ve got eight people taking part including singers Kim Brodie and Jonathan Smithson, as well as my dad, Dave Webb, who’s a performance poet.

“Everyone is giving their time free. It’s going to be a great showcase for local talent.”

Rachael, whose first single, Days Of Old, was released last November, is currently juggling her singing career with full-time work and bringing up three-year-old daughter Evie. Rachael is appealing for donations of prizes to be raffled at the show on August 18, email rachael jparkin@hotmail.co.uk to contact her.
