Castleford’s landmark footbridge is set to inspire writers round the district as the inspiration for a short story competition.
Writing group the Rain Gang is launching the competition to mark the fifth anniversary of the bridge later this year, and is inviting entries, with the winners taking their place in a book of short stories inspired by the bridge to be published later this year, with writer Ian Clayton among the judges.
Mike Rigby, of the group, said: “We thought it would be nice to mark the bridge turning five and we thought it would be good to get other writers in the area involved.
“The stories can be any genre, the bridge can be a central part of the story, or more incidental.”
Members of the Rain Gang are already writing their own bridge stories for inclusion in the book.
Mike added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if we picked more than one winner in each category.”
There are two categories, under 16s and over 16s, entries must be between 500 and 2,000 words, to include name, age, and contact details on an attached cover street, to be send to Bridge Arts, Sagar Street, Castleford by Friday April 19.
