THE trial of a debt-riddled market trader accused of murdering his mother-in-law has begun.
Leeds Crown Court yesterday heard David Hill, 48, allegedly struck grandma-of-five Molly Wright at least eight times about the head with a heavy weapon at her home at Redhill Gardens on September 27 2006.

At the start of a five-week trial, Nicholas Campbell QC, prosecuting, told a jury Hill called police and ambulance crews to Molly's home, claiming he had found her lying on the kitchen floor, bleeding and unconscious, and he thought she was already dead.

The court heard Hill, of Lakeside Meadows, Pontefract – who had worked with Mrs Wright at her greeting card stall at Castleford Indoor Market and is married to her daughter, Maxine – had been taking money from their joint business account to pay off his debts.

Hill claims he found her body, but denies murder.
Proceeding.
