BUDDING archaeologists can dig deep to learn new skills at a free event being held by Castleford Heritage Trust.
Enthusiasts can find out how to research from maps, do desk top survey work, the importance of place names and where to find resources during the session at 2 Sagar Street between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday April 9.

Lorna Malkin, of Castleford Heritage Trust, which is running the workshop in conjunction with West Yorkshire Archaeology Service, said: “The afternoon session will take place in Fryston Wood and will cover recording and mapping of features, how to record finds and sites, plotting with GPS, and the management of woodlands.”

The workshop is part of the Cultural Exchange project, run by Castleford Heritage Trust and Guidance Services, and funded by Yorkshire Forward and the Learning and Skills Council.

Lunch will be provided for participants. To book a place, contact Lorna Malkin on 01977 520707 or email lorna.hey@btconnect.com.
