CASTLEFORD descended into traffic chaos on Thursday morning after a barrier fault at a level crossing.
Roads around and through the town were gridlocked at morning rush hour as engineers from Network Rail worked on the barriers

The fault was picked up by the signalman at 4.30am when the red warning light remained on, despite no trains approaching.

A Network Rail spokeswoman said to avoid confusion to drivers, he immediately called engineers to fix the fault, as well as police to help control the building traffic.

The fault was fixed at 9.45am.

The spokeswoman said: "The fault was picked up immediately and dealt with quickly and according to our safety guidelines.
"It did cause traffic delays for travellers, for which we apologise."
