BOLLYWOOD stars came to Castleford for the glittering world film premiere of The Train.

Indian celebrity Amitabh Bachchan, the passionate thriller's actors Emraan Hashmi, Greeta Basra and former Miss India Sayali Bhajet greeted excited fans on the green carpet entrance outside Cineworld – although Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty did not attend as expected.

The glamorous evening kicked off the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA), tipped as the Bollywood Oscars, which are taking place on Saturday June 9 in Sheffield.

Katrina Howarth, manager at the cinema inside the Xscape leisure complex in Glass Houghton, said: "The premiere went really well and was very exciting. We had quite a crowd outside and all the stars were mingling in the foyer before they were ushered in to the film.

"We're also showing the Indian film Cheeni Cum with English subtitles this Sunday June 17 and Monday June 18."

The Train follows a gloomy marriage, the husband's temptation after a chance meeting and an anonymous evil spy who watches the three.

Other IIFA celebration festivals and events are also going on across Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford.
