Cadets meet Sir David
CASTLEFORD Air Cadets had a flying start to the Easter holidays when they met actor Sir David Jason at the Yorkshire Air Museum.
Four youngsters from the group met the Touch of Frost star – currently filming a new episode of the hit series in the district – when he cut the ribbon to open the new Against All Odds exhibition in Elvington, about the story of Bomber Command during World War Two.
Cadet Sgt Beth Crawford, Cadet Cpl Kelly Hughes, Cadet Kirsty Lightfoot and Cadet Luke Boswell from the Castleford squadron formed a guard of honour along with RAF personnel from RAF Leconfield as Sir David landed in a yellow helicopter.
Cadet Sgt Beth Crawford, who is a qualified glider pilot at 17, said: "We had a quick chat about flying as Sir David is a qualified helicopter pilot.
"It was a pleasure to meet him and an honour to represent the air cadets during this tribute to the 55,000 Bomber Command aircrew who lost their lives in the war."
Cadet Luke Boswell, 13, said: "He asked me about the air cadets and what sort of activities we got involved in.
"He was really nice and friendly when I spoke to him."
