A CANNABIS farm was discovered during a raid at a house in Ferry Fryston yesterday morning.
Officers for Castleford neighbourhood policing team (NPT) swooped on an address on Fairfield Close and uncovered more than 30 cannabis plants and hydroponics equipment.

A 42-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman are currently being questioned by police on suspicion of production of controlled drugs and abstracting electricity.

The officers were acting on tip-offs from members of the public as well as intelligence gathered themselves.

Insp Ian Williams, of the NPT, said: "I am pleased with the result. We have made two arrests and have taken some drugs off the streets which is a good result for us.

"More importantly, it just shows the public that we are responding to their concerns. I hope it sends out a clear message to our communities to report any suspicious activity because police will follow it up and take action where appropriate."

There are many ways to spot a potential cannabis factory – most will emit a strong and unusual smell.

Neighbours may hear a lot of banging noises as the factory is set up and see people coming and going with bags of fertiliser and compost and other equipment such as powerful lights.

It is likely the curtains will be kept closed at all times depending on where the plants are kept, but bright lights may appear to be left on around the clock.

Residents living in the street are again likely to see various comings and goings when the crop is harvested, such as bags being loaded into a vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0845 6060606.
