A LAP dancing bar opening in Pontefract this weekend will create new jobs and entice more revellers to the town, according to its owner.
Heaven, on Beastfair, will open to the paying public at 11pm on Friday after a £100,000 revamp to the two-storey bar with private booths for lap dances.
Tony Lumb, managing director of bar owner A & J Inns Ltd, said: "It's great to get Heaven open as something different for Pontefract, which has never had a lap dancing bar.

What do you think? Have your say in the comments section below.

"People will be enticed in – I'm sure in Pontefract and Castleford there are people who go to lap dancing bars but now they can visit one nearby.
"If you are going on a stag do and looking for a town to visit, places with a lap dancing bar might bring more people in.

"We employ 50 people in Pontefract with ten new jobs at Heaven – looking at the big picture there will be another 20 or 30 jobs here."
Heaven, formerly the Style Bar, is on the same site as Big Fellas nightclub and bars Silks and VIPs, which are all owned by A & J Inns Ltd.
Mr Lumb, 39, added: "There is a downturn in the market but our clubs do really well because we run them to high standards, invest in them and do our best to keep people coming in.

"I think before Christmas is a good time to open, Saturday should be busy.
"Everybody is entitled to an opinion but people don't have to come, you can't see inside and it is run to strict conditions.
"We've spent more than £100,000 revamping Heaven and in that whole site we've invested more than half a million pounds.
"Over the years we've been here we have invested about £2m in Pontefract.

" The town is one of the best we work in, the people are sound and that's why we invest here."
Heaven can open between 11am and 4am Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays preceding bank holidays, after Wakefield Council's licensing committee agreed a variation of its premises licence, subject to conditions, this week.

The site already had permission for lap dancing and new conditions include having registered door staff on premises from 8pm, as well as a radio link to Pontefract's CCTV control room and police station.
One objection on the basis of public order was made by John Wain, owner of Pontefract's Malt Shovel pub.

Mr Lumb said: "We work closely with police to reduce crime and trouble, all our managers are part of Pontefract Pubwatch.
"You never hear of trouble in lap dancing bars. People misbehaving or drunk won't get into Heaven.

"We will open five days a week from 9pm because there's no trade before then – we've only got the licence for longer to be flexible for parties or race days."
