FLORIDA and the Wakefield district may be worlds apart but residents are being urged to bring the sunshine state's magic closer to home.
Disney is hunting for a UK location to twin with Walt Disney World in Florida and bosses at Wakefield Council believe the district could be a contender in the competition.

People must nominate the district by submitting a poem, picture, video or d
rawing explaining why Wakefield deserves to be a winner – and if their entry is chosen their family will win a trip to see the twinning ceremony at the famous theme park.

Joanne Roney, the council's chief executive, said: "Wakefield is a place that celebrates its traditions, appeals to people of all ages, looks to the future, is family friendly, and is full of inspirational people.

"This is just what Disney is looking for as this is not about having theme parks and famous cartoon characters.

"I hope people will have fun entering this UK-wide competition which can only help promote the district."

A Disney-themed celebratory party would also be held in Wakefield if the district were chosen to be twinned.

Entries from across the country – including at least one from Wakefield – have already been made.

To nominate the district submit an entry at www.waltdisney worldtwinnedtown.co.uk/enter before Sunday November 22.
