A POLICE chief in Castleford has come up with a new way for residents to have their say.
Insp Ian Williams, of the town's NPT, has launched two surveys on his team's websites for people to nominate their local policing priorities online.

The team holds regular Police and Communities Together – PACT – meetings which sets the priorities
for policing for that month.

Insp Williams said: "I realise it is not always possible for local residents to attend PACT meetings, even when they are held in small communities as they are in Castleford.

"PACT is all about the public setting the agenda in policing. I am always looking at new ways to get the views of local people."

Each nomination for a policing priority will be taken to the next area PACT meeting and counted as one vote towards that month's priorities.

Insp Williams added: "Residents will also be able to nominate a local Community Payback project online. Again these will be taken to the next PACT meeting where a final decision will be made based on the wishes of all those who have taken part."

Community Payback involves offenders supervised by probation officers working as groups on projects identified by the public such as graffiti removal and litter picking. For more details log on to the Castleford NPT website via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/npt.
