A TAXI driver was brutally attacked and his car smashed by a mob of thugs in Pontefract.
The 48-year-old taxi driver was parked on Eastbourne Terrace at 11pm on Friday to pick up a regular customer when a group of up to ten people approached the car.

A female in the group tried to open the car door to get to the male passenger, who was sitting on the back seat with a child, while the rest of the group surrounded the car.

The taxi driver got out to protect his car but was then punched repeatedly on his face while another thug jumped up and down on his car bonnet and smashed the windscreen.

The driver was left with black eyes and is being treated in hospital for a possible fractured cheekbone.

One of the mob is described as a white male, aged 19 to 20, wearing a white T-shirt.

A second is described as a white male, aged 19 to 20, wearing maroon clothing.

They were joined by a further six to eight people.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Pontefract CID via 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
