FIGHTER planes and marching ex-servicemen will pay tribute to Featherstone's war dead when the town's new memorial is unveiled on Sunday.
Veterans, with bands, cadets, scouts and guides will parade from the town's Cressey's Corner to a special service and two minute silence at the Station Lane memorial at 11am.

A World War Two Bulldog fighter plane will later fly past crowds after former members of the armed forces are presented with medals by Lord St Oswald at Featherstone Rovers' Chris Moyles Stadium.

Featherstone councillor Kay Binnersley said: "Thousands of people are expected to come and pay tribute on Sunday.

"There will be a lot going on for all to enjoy and and of course remember the town's war dead.

"The RAF's Red Arrows team are also expected to fly over Featherstone on Monday to mark the memorial's unveiling."

The new brick memorial features a large curved wall bearing the names of those who gave their lives for their country.

About 450 people from Featherstone were killed in the two World Wars – 300 between 1914 and 1918 and 150 between 1939 and 1945.
